Convinced Again

As Christians, we face forces designed to erode what we believe. Many of our worship services are a ‘convinced again’ experience. Other personal experiences convince us again of the realities of the unchanging truth. Recently another ‘convinced again’ experience was going along with a three-day evangelism effort in New York City. I believe the youth would testify the same.

Storms, Floods, and Wildfires

The last few months have been disruptive to tens of thousands of Americans. Hurricanes in the Southern States and Puerto Rico plus destructive wildfires in Oregon and California have caused massive losses. Homes, businesses, and infrastructure were damaged or destroyed. Even more significant is the tragic loss of life. The most recent tragedy is California’s rapidly moving wildfires that only gave minutes for people to flee- some didn’t make it out in time.

Be Thankful Unto Him

As we stand at the hardware store counter, the cashier offers the little boy by our side a candy fish. We watch to see if he remembers what he should say. A smiling boy saying a soft “thank you” is a welcome sight. It is encouraging to Dad when he remembers. And when he doesn’t, it’s a reminder to keep working at it.

As Christians, we are like the little boy. We are standing by God’s counter. God keeps handing us things. Some things we’ve asked for and others we have not.

The Longsuffering of God

“But thou, O Lord, art a God full of compassion, and gracious, longsuffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth” (Psa 86:15).

Longsuffering is the quality of self-restraint in the face of provocation which does not hastily retaliate or promptly punish. It is the opposite of anger, is associated with mercy, and is a moral attribute of God.

The School on Sunday

Many of us are richly blessed to have gone to Sunday school since childhood. We expect students to file out to their classes and teachers to take their places, Sunday after Sunday. Is it accomplishing what it should?
Recently, a dad took his young son to class for his first time. The dad ended up staying because of his son’s tears. He now comes back from Sunday school with a beaming face and a verse to show his dad. The dad felt very blessed to observe two teachers doing a good job of controlling and teaching a Bible story to God’s little people.
