Summary: This sermon presents lessons from the life of Moses in requirements to becoming an effective leader. 1. Who is God? You need to meet God, and understand who He is. Shepherds need to be aware of holy ground and how to relate to it. 2. Who am I? We doubt our ability to be shepherds. Sometimes that is rooted in weakness, sometime in pride. No shepherd is self-made. He needs to acknowledge those who came before him, and be honest with the good and bad qualities. 3. What shall I do? Shepherds are called to help relieve sorrow and suffering. Only after shoes are off is some of that able to be seen and heard in the sheep. The shepherd needs to lay down his personal well-being and right to be comfortable. 4. What is in your hand? We need to accept the calling of God with whatever skill we hold in our hands at the moment; God can make up the rest. Shepherds have to use words. They don't always feel like they know how to say things correctly. Shepherds tend to let their own failures shut off their ability to speak. 5. Who will help me? Barefoot shepherds have quit trying to prove something. That's when God can use them. All leadership comes at a price; either the shepherd pays for it or the sheep are paying for it. If the shepherd is selfish, the sheep are paying for it. A humble shepherd pays for it by laying down his life for the sheep. This will result in receiving a crown of glory from the Chief Shepherd.
